Widow, 60, nicknamed 'elephant woman' for the huge tumour on her face makes a desperate plea for help after being abandoned by her family

An elderly woman has been living with large facial tumours since she was three as she cannot afford surgery to remove them.

The woman from Luoyang City, China has been forced to let the tumours grow and they now reach her waist.
Duan who is now in her 60s receives a government subsidy but it is not enough to pay for treatment.

The woman suffers from neurofibromatosis and has tumours all over her body.

She first showed signs of the condition when she was three years old. Neurofibromatosis is the result of a genetic mutation and causes tumours to grow in the nervous system.

Without access to surgery, the woman was forced to let them grow.

Duan says she was married twice in the past.

Her first marriage ended in divorce and her second husband passed away 10 years ago.

She didn't have any children and now lives alone.

Duan receives 800 yuan (£91) a month from the government however it is not enough to pay for surgery to remove the tumours.

She has since made a desperate plea for help to get treatment for the tumours, reports Pear Video.
