For the most part, Church is one of the safest places there is, it’s were we go with our families to worship the almighty God, but sadly there are evil individuals everywhere, people who take advantage of those who are vulnerable. Nine year old Sherry Johnson went through the worst.

9 Years old and Pregnant

Sherry Johnson grew up in a religious household, her home was right next to Church. Sherry should have been safe, her mother should have been very kind, after all, God is watching. When her mother left her alone in the house to go to Church, an 18 year old Deacon went to the family kitchen and found Sherry alone, the young girl was sexually assaulted, she didn’t understand what was happening but she knew it was wrong.

When Sherry started talking about her uncomfortable experience, her mother was against her, telling people in Church not to believe her daughter's lies. The mother was more worried about what people in Church would think if they reported the Deacon to police than the safety of her child.

Sherry was emotional, she wanted to runaway but had nowhere else to go.

Sherry Johnson was still Nine years old with her mother by her side in hospital when she found out about her pregnancy. The doctors shocked that a young girl was expecting, they asked Sherry who the father was but her mother had already warned her not to tell them anything.

A Child Forced to Marriage by her Mother

To protect the image of her family in the Church and to prevent the Deacon from facing rape charges, Sherry’s mother forced her to marry the man who raped her. The girl was confused, what is marriage, she was just a child. Before that, Sherry had to give birth to her first child in Miami, she was driven there by a Bishop. On the way, the Bishop stopped the car, unzipped his pants, and raped Sherry Johnson.

A few months later she married the Deacon, her mother made sure the wedding went smoothly, she even designed 11 year old Sherry’s wedding dress.

In the months leading up to the marriage, Sherry was raped multiple times by the Deacon, it was a hellish childhood that just kept getting worse and worse.

In much of the United States, it’s legal to marry a minor and there’s no minimum age. You’d think these kind of things happen in so-called third world countries, but it’s perfectly legal for a grown man to marry and have sex with an 11 year old girl in America.

Light at the end of the Tunnel

After she was married, Sherry gave birth every year until she was Sixteen. Being a mother of six and still a child was a struggle. Her life was hard, she felt helpless, but eventually Sherry was freed. A lawyer took her case to the Courts, and she ended her marriage to the Deacon.

Today, 55 year old Sherry Johnson is the mother of 9 nine children, grandmother of 34, and great grandmother of four kids. She’s happy that she can tell her story and help those in similar situations, she has the full support of her kids.
