The First Woman in History to be Imprisoned for Racism

2024 marks 30 years of black majority rule in South Africa, while the country has made a lot of progress in the three decades of democracy it has problems like every other country in the world. In democratic South Africa, there are white people who miss the good old days, when a white man was president and the black majority were treated as sub humans in their own land. Vicki Momberg is one of these racist people.

Vicki goes Crazy

It was around 8pm in 2016 when Vicki Momberg was leaving a shopping Mall in Durban, South Africa, when two young black men broke into her car and stole her belongings. Momberg was shocked, she called the Cops immediately and they showed up a few minutes later, but there was a problem, Vicki didn’t like the race of the police officers. One of the black policeman tried to help Momberg but the woman was furious, she yelled the “K Word” (South Africa’s equivalent to the N word) over 40 times, the K world was widely used by white South Africans during the apartheid, a period of white minority rule.

Vicki not only yelled the K word 40 plus times, she said that she wanted to be helped by a white or Indian policeman and that black people are useless and clueless. As always these days, the drama was caught on camera!

Exposed to the World

The video of the incident went viral on Social media (it got millions of views fast), Vicki Momberg was known all over the world for all the wrong reasons. There was outrage, a white woman in the rainbow nation has gone full blown racist rage, it showed that racism runs deep in some Caucasians in South Africa.

Vicki makes History

In 2018, Momberg went to trail, she was found guilty on four counts of Crimen injuria (an act of the unlawfully, intentionally and seriously impairing the dignity of another). Vicki was sentenced to 2 years behind bars, becoming the first ever person in South African history to be jailed for such a crime. Momberg was released in 2019 after serving just four months.
