Why is it the woman's fault? 

Over the past few days, we have seen many reports of husbands torturing their wives. 

Women continue to be subjected to brutal torture. One girl was raped by her four brothers one of whom was a preacher. Another woman had her tongue cut off by her husband. Another woman was beaten, stripped naked by her husband in front of others and her head was shaven off. 

I am not naming any of these victims because that is how it should be. Victims should not be named. Only attackers should be named and shamed. 

However, to my absolute horror, saw many on social media and twitter including "respected" journalists, saying that the woman whose head was shaven off, used to do drugs. She used to party and was high. So, what is she did all those things? That still doesn't rob her of her right to not have those things done to her. If a woman dances or does drugs, that doesn't give anyone the right to rob her of her agency and treat her like someone who isn't human. 

We sadly do this too often. We use the worst form of excuses to justify violence and sexual violence against women. A woman who dances or wear jeans being raped vs a woman who wears a burqa and being raped syndrome boggles me. But, even when the woman who wears a burqa gets raped by her four brothers, people start attacking the doctor who brought up the case because God forbid, the woman has to be wrong somewhere. Even, when a burqa-wearing woman gets raped our so-called "men" still find a way to make the woman the instigator of the crimes. 

If someone dances in public, wherein any law or morality, religious or otherwise, does it make it ok for her to be stripped naked against her will and have her head shaven off? How pathetic and stupid do you need to be to make that conclusion? 

This probably stems from a long-held tradition of men blaming women for the tortures they have to bear at the hands of the men. If a woman leaves an abusive husband, it is her who couldn't keep her house together they say. 

This line of reasoning is so dangerous of any society. If a student is a bad student does he deserve to be tortured and beaten? No? Right! The same applies to women.

I have been absolutely disgusted by the gutter the mindset of so many people is. To be honest, I don't even feel bad anymore about the garbage that people write here. Because over years of illiteracy and the disintegration of basic human decency this is where we have finally been lead to.
